Life has gained structure: I work during the week and ski on weekends. It’s a balance that I’m enjoying, although I’m sure that the novelty of the 9–5 will soon wear off. Nevertheless, I’m having a great time.

This month I’ve been working full time at Kardium and having a blast. I get to spend lots of time in the lab and learn from the wealth of talented engineers around me. In the evenings, I’ve been training harder at the gym and working on flight systems for UBC Rocket.

Just last week I started my first ever real job working for an engineering company (https://kardium.com/) that makes devices for heart surgery. I really like it so far as I get to analyze a lot of data, do math with it, and work in a lab—the kind of stuff I enjoy.
What I’m doing right now School has been extremely challenging, especially because of the apocalypse, and this month I got quite sick from stress and Zoom. As a result, I dropped two courses, but I’m looking forward to taking them in person. My dad finished building me a beautiful desk, which I’ve absolutely loved working on. Otherwise, I’ve been working mostly on coursework and side projects (trying to write my own neural network), but always make time on Saturdays to get outside.
What I’m doing right now As my house gets torn apart piece-by-piece for renovations, I’ve moved in with my dad in Coquitlam. It’s great to spend more time with him, and he’s making use of his retirement by building me a bigger desk so that I have more space to do math problems. School has been a struggle, and so I’ve been trying to break the monotony by getting outside:
What I’m doing right now In the swing of things at school. I’m greatly enjoying Engineering Physics—especially meeting all the other incredible people in my program. This week I started work with UBC Rocket, where I’m helping to write software for three rockets, one of which is going to space (if all goes well). Lastly, my friends and I tried to climb an amazing route on the Squamish Chief yesterday which quickly turned into a real adventure.
What I’m doing right now Will be starting Engineering Physics at UBC next week. Trying to climb as much as possible while simultaneously updating my resume. I’m that coordinated. A few weeks ago I went paragliding with a friend and immediately got hooked: We’re already planning to go back and learn to do it ourselves. The other day I also reached a huge milestone and sent my first 5.
