He was on an episode of NPR’s Ask Me Another as the featured guest, and during his interview he shared a story of him in one of the Japanese Internment Camps. The children had to go to school, like they would have regularly, and the structure was pretty much the same. At the beginning of every day, the children had to stand up and say the Pledge of Allegiance. He said he remembered looking out the window at the barbed wire fences when they got to the part that says, “with liberty and justice for all.” (Reddit comment about George Takei)
